My car will not start. How can I be sure it is the fuel pump?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Paul, The only way you can really try to see if the fuel pump is working is to turn the key to the ON position and see if you can hear the pump motor run for a few seconds. You need to listen back by the fuel tank. This does not tell you however that it's pumping fuel to the engine. If the vehicle doesn't start and it's turning over, it could be fuel, spark or air mixture. You may have to have your vehicle looked at by a technician to determine what is happening. Lori Johnson
