my son is spinal cord injury c6 c7. We have a 1995 mercury with a blown head. Is it worth getting it fixed or buy a new motor? We travel 70 miles one way three times a week to rehab.

If the Cougar is due for other services, such as timing belt replacement, spark plugs, coolant flush and so on...it may be cost effective to purchase a used motor.
