Chevrolet Cavalier Station Wag Car Maintenance and Repair Question:
I have a 94 Chevy Cavalier Station wagon with 170K miles. When I start the car all the dash lights (gas, oil, battery,radio/clock, etc) come on as they normally do to test. However once I turn the headlights on all the console lights and the radio and clock go black. Is this possibly just a fuse issue or a more serious electrical issue?
PS Heard about you from Blogher!
Lauren Rose,
I don't think your problem is a fuse. It sounds more to me like you have a bad ground. A bad ground will create more resistance, which in turn takes voltage away from the load. It should be as easy as cleaning up the existing ground or overlaying a new ground. You should take your vehicle to a certified shop or dealership to have this problem diagnosed properly. Hope this information helps.
