AskPatty Certified Female Friendly Logo
Hi Patty, I am looking for a new car and went to dealer the other day who started out charming and when we sat down to discuss figures he pushed a PO in front of me and told me that he could not do any calculations until I signed it. I told him I will do the calculations at home and walked out. Being totally disgusted I have been reading several articles and came upon yours. My head is spinning and need help. Do I stand a chance at negotiating on the invoice price which is what I believe the dealer gets the vehicle for? Someone told me to offer $500.00 above their invoice price and not a penny more. Any advice would be appreciated. I also want to just go to their site and build a car on line and walk in and tell them this is what I want and nothing more. Oh, and for anyone who is lured into the $300.00 vin etching, that can be bought for $19.99. Naturally the salesman was going to let me have it for just $375.00. Thanks for any advice you can give. Mary

Patty Streeter, at AskPatty.com The I cannot know the invoice price for the model you want and I do not know what options on this vehicle you are attempting to buy may be so just be sure to factor these into the invoice price of the specific vehicle you want to buy from this dealer. I would buy from a different Nissan dealer, this dealer practice of getting your signature before calculations is unscrupulous as best. Have you searched for a NISSAN deealer in our female friendly certified dealer search or gone here to configure your Nissa Versa ? You can get a quote from a recommended or certified AskPatty.com dealer in your area here : http://askpatty.com/chrome.php You need to research for any rebates or incentive programs that may be currently running in your local market to see if you can ask for further savings. Get approved for financing before you go back to buy and I suggest you wait until the last few days of the month to negotiate the final price as most dealers are much more willing to take take low margin deals on these days. One other suggestion is to buy from the largest dealer in your local market who has the most inventory of your vehicle on the lot to move at month end. Hope this helps!
