A lot of people prefer to drive manual transmissions because they're more fun. I agree. However, a lot of people think they know how to drive manual transmissions and they don't. Manual transmissions are a little less in price and, if driven correctly, one can get slightly better gas mileage. For the most part though, it just depends on the driver which option suits you better.
