1991 JaguarXJ6 can only be started in drive or 2nd gear. Could it be a linkage problem or transmission problem?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Karen, It does sound like linkage needs to be adjusted. If the transmission is driving fine once you have the vehicle running, I would get the linkage checked. I would suggest you take it to the dealership for this kind of work. Good luck. Lori Johnson
