I needed brake repair work on my 2003 Acura TL,
rear and front.
Ihave antilock brakes.
I had a friend who is a mechanic do the work. I believe he ground the rotors and not replaced them. He changed the oil and filter and replaced air filter. The cost was $440. Did I save money like promised?
If he got the parts from Acura it would be around $100 for the brake pads. The labor is 1.8 hours, so figure another $150-200 for labor. You can get an oil change for around $25 or so. Depending on where he did the work he may have had to send the rotors out to be cut, that could be another $60 or so. I would think that you probably paid a fair price, but I'm not sure how much money you saved.
Call the dealership and ask what they charge for a brake job. The important thing is that you feel the work was done to your satisfaction.
