My 1994 Honda Civic has ABS Brakes and the pump makes noise. The dealership told me even if the pump fails I will still have brakes. They also said it would cost over $1000 to replace the pump. My question is (1) will I still have brakes? and (2) is it worth replacing such an expensive part on such an old car?

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear I. Miller, Yes it is true that the ABS system works separately from the regular brake system. In most cases your brakes will work fine even if your ABS does not work. Replacing the part is up to you, but just remember that the ABS is a safety device that helps you stop your vehicle more efficiently. I would strongly suggest that you fix it if you can.
