While driving on the highway I heard a cracking sound on my 350E Mercedes windshield and noticed an approximately 1.5" horizontal crack about 2" above my wiper. I did not observe anything hitting the windshiled. When I examined the crack later, I noticed that there was a point of a pencil size crack at the beginning of the glass. The crack then extended and has continued to do so. The extension is inside the glass. The car is less than a year old and it is my opinion that the windhield is flawed. What is your opinion? Thanks

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Jen, You should check with your Mercedes dealership and see if there have been problems with this windshield. The "pencil size point" as you say, is usually the place that something hit the windshield. The cracking does not always start at the time of the impact, so it could be that you weren't even in the vehicle when it happened. Time and temperature will cause the point of impact to crack and spread across the windshield. Lori Johnson
