Jenny Trostel, Partner at Anderson of Hunt Valley Go online and do some shopping to see what the Honda sells for. Know what your credit score is and what you plan to put down on the car. Know what options and colors are acceptable to you and which ones you do not want. Take your time to make a good decision. Look for a Honda certified pre-owned vehicle as well. Some manufacturers offer special finance rates on certified pre-owned vehicles. Good Luck!

Based on your not having a lot of credit and no co signer, you will may have to put a lot of money down. You will also have to purchase a vehicle in a certain price range. I would shop around and see where you feel most comfortable and will get the best rate. There is no harm in speaking with multiple dealers to see who can offer the best rate. Give them an idea of where you fall as far as your credit score and then see who offers what.

Best of luck!

Lauren,

Unfortunately there is no golden rule on how to negotiate. Too bad there wasn't some secret out there!

The best thing you can do is to be prepared and be knowledgable. The more you know about what you want, what other people are spending, how much you are willing to spend, and what your credit score is, the better off you will be to haggle and to stand firm on what you know is the best price.

You should know your credit score before you start any dealing. Look it up for free on www.freecreditreport.com. Again, the more you know, the better. And check out some of the suggestions from our experts!
