My 1998 Saturn L1 makes a ticking sound when the engine is running. It sounds liek it is coming from more on teh driver's side of the engine than the passengar's. If I push on the gas, the ticking just gets faster, though not really louder. My husband described it as sounding like a motor boat. What do you think might be the issue?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jamey Wozniak, Owner and CEO at Joe's Hitch, Trailer & Truck Accessories I hope you have been doing the regular oil changes and following the maintenance in your owners manual. This sounds like you have a lot of miles on the engine and the valves are ticking. Take it to a ASE Certified technician. Check our dip stick - you may be low on oil. Don't just add oil or an additive if it seems ok. Engines due wear and may need repair.

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Bree, Check your oil and make sure that the level is full. If it is I would suggest that you take it in for service and have the valves checked. They may need to be adjusted. Lori
