Can you answer this for me so I can end a battle I have with a friend. He says a 4 wheel drive car uses more gas then a 2 wheel drive. I say that what is under the hood and how the car is driven is what determines gas usage. Which is right?

Joy Sherman, Owner at Ms. Motorcars Hello, 4 wheel drive does use more gas! Joy Sherman Ms. Motorcars

Jamey Wozniak, Owner and CEO at Joe's Hitch, Trailer & Truck Accessories It's true that 4 wheel drive vehicles get poorer fuel economy than 2 wheel drive, because the weight of the 4WD components increase the weight of the vehicle and it will take more energy to propel that vehicle - hence poorer fuel economy.
