I have a 2001 VW Bug, bought it 2 years ago this month. Everything's been great except for recently - when I put it in park and turn off the car. When I go to get in it again and try to go pull out, the gear shift sticks and it wont go out of park! I started setting the E-brake when I put it in park, and that seems to help, but sometimes it still sticks! I have to turn the car on and off, pump the brakes and say a little prayer before I can get it into drive or reverse! It's an automatic, and this just started to happen a week or so ago. What's wrong!!??

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Patty Streeter, at Rena, This could be caused by a faulty brake switch or a mis adjusted shift interlock cable. There is a recall issued by Volkswagon pertaining to a faulty brake switch on certain Volkswagon Beetles. It is recommended that you take your vehicle to a Volkswagon dealer and find out if this recall does pertain to your vehicle and if it has been performed. Patty
